My Own Bed

My Sleepover Bed

I’ve always had this thing where I’ve had to go back home to my own bed. I could be an hour away from home, but still I insist on returning to my own bed.

My husband didn’t really drink, so he was always the nominated driver. For me, being the drinker, this worked out well! 🙂

Now I’m single I’m really noticing how obsessed I am about having to sleep in my own bed. No no not already off in some stranger’s bed doing strange things with him. Or am I? LMAO

Meaning I go out to dinner, or out with friends. Everyone asks me to stay so I can have a few drinks and not lose my licence. Australia is huge on catching drunk drivers – and so they should be! But here the limit is 0.5 which can be 1, 2 or 3 drinks depending on what you’ve eaten, whether you normally drink alcohol etc. I’m small framed and a drinker, so I would say I’m the 2 drinks girl.

Recently, my mum suggested I sleep over. My brain went into panic mode – that “no no no… That’s not possible… retreat retreat!!!” Lol

But she convinced me to stay, so there I was. And it wasn’t that bad… Apart from the fact that I drafted this post at 4.30am!  Haha did I mention I’m a bad sleeper?!

Since then, I have been asked to sleep over at my brother’s place, and then a girlfriends… And of course said, no thank you!

But I am thinking about changing. Maybe I should have my going-away-from-home-stay-over-night-bag at the ready on occasion.  🙂 This way, I can relax and have a few drinks and look forward to the adventures of sleeping in foreign beds… Ooor maybe not sleeping! Lol

Now am I the only one that feels like this… Or are there others like me? Do you have to sleep in your own bed… No matter what??

Hugs to you all and Happy Sleeping!! 🙂

Paula xxxx

  1. Now that does look like a very inviting and comfy bed. Yes madam, I think you should always pre-pack a little over night bag if you are going to be having nightly jaunts away. Toothbrush, cosmetics, clean underwear, change of clothes. That way wherever you decide to lay your head you can be assured that you have everything covered. Yes, our own beds are what we get use to and sometimes beds provided by others (Hotels and the like) make for a restless night, so it’s nice to come home to the familiar. Sounds like you are having fun missy 😉 xx

    • Hahaha!
      🙂
I love my check list, thank you! 🙂 My mums bed was extremely comfortable…but so is mine!! LMAO I suppose it makes life easier and not having to catch cabs all through the night. Hope you had a GREAT DAY. Hugs Paula xxxxx

  2. Superb post my dear friend! I like your very mystical and rich bed . Happy Sleeping dear Paula !With love maxima

  3. Yes, it is always nice to be home in your own bed….but there is always the spirit of adventure of being away that I love also.

  4. I love to be at home too, and get homesick when I travel. I hate to admit this but it’s true — perhaps a phobia, who knows, but yes, I’m relating to this. As for drinking, I was always of the mindset, don’t drink and drive. If you can find someone to take you somewhere when you’ll be drinking, please do so 🙂

    • It’s not worth your license over 2 drinks. I soooo get like that when I’m away. I’m going to work on this one! Lol It’s weird but I hop into my bed and I instantly feel more relaxed. Don’t worry, Maryanne…No drink driving here! Happy sleeping in your bed! 🙂
Nite. It’s 1.20am….See,I’m as bad sleeper! Lol Hugs Paula xxxxx

  5. i am exactly the same about it, sometimes people get hurt feelings about it, but they are coming to understand it.

  6. I can definitely relate! I NEED my own bed, was always uncomfortable sleeping elsewhere. However, I do suggest that you step outside your comfort zone & you prepare this bag of yours so you can enjoy a few drinks without panicking of drinking too much, right? xxx

    • Hi T.
      🙂
That’s my plan. I only hope I can carry it out! Lol
It is more relaxing to not worry about whether you can have 2 drinks. It’s not like I want to get blotto! Lol But here…2 drinks can cost you your license. I’m going to become adventurous..Well, I hope anyway!! Lol
      Nite, T. Hugs Paula xxxx

I love traveling and sleep very well in a hotel room. I’m lucky I’m one of those people who can pretty much fall asleep anywhere. However, wherever I go it always feels good to get back in my own bed.

  8. I like my own bed although I have slept on a friends sofa this week as I went to stay with them for a few days. My back does complain when it is not my bed I use though

  9. Haha Well I know what happens when you develop feelings about your bed 😉 I have passed almost 16 years on my own bed at home and now 4 years here in hostel but still I haven’t developed feelings for my bed 😉 Whether it is my bed or a bed at some other place, I feel difficult sleeping 🙂
Loved reading about your attachment with your bed 😛 I hopw you always get to sleep on it 😉
    Love and Hugs ! xx

    • Hahahahaha!
      🙂
Hello Little Sister, your comment made me laugh so much. It’s 1.30am and I’m sooo tired but you just woke me up! Lol
Truth be told I’m a rotten sleeper, hence why I’m still awake! Lol
Still, my bed is still better than any random bed. Lol Plus I have Sakura (My Cat) to sleep with me. She’s like having a soft teddy bear to hug. 🙂
Nite from me to you. Hugs Big Sis! xxxxxoooo

      • Aww I am feeling so excited that I made you laugh 😉 I don’t know how to talk to sisters because I don’t have any…I guess I would continue talking the same way I do 🙂
You are lovely ! Your cat must be lucky to have you 😉
        Good Night
        Sleep tight
        Wake up bright
        In the Morning light
        To do what’s right
        With all your might 🙂
        Love you so much !

      • That poem is so sweet, little sister.
I just told Nafees that we now have an adopted cyber sister in, White Pearl.:) He’s happy! 🙂 xxxx

  10. How lucky to be married to a designated driver.

    • Ohhhh, not any longer. I just seperated. This is my problem. I can’t cab it everywhere, so overnight bag it is! Lol Hope you had a great day. Hugs and nite. Paula xxxxx

  11. hi big sis. you’ve really awesome bedroom especially you have opportunity to enjoy raining voice and view while you sitting by your window.

    • Darling, little brother!
      🙂
That’s my mums spare room bed. 🙂 I slept at her house the night.
But my bed at my house is also by the window and I can hear the rain. You love the rain, right? Guess What? You now have a cyber sister to our little family. Lol White Pearl is now yours and my cyber sister.
Have a great day. Hugs to you to from Me and Sakura. Big Sis xxxxxoo

  12. if thats your bed it’s awesome. I hate sleeping in others peoples bed.

    • Haha!

I must tell my mum that people like her spare bed. It’s an antique. My Step father was an antique restorer for 40 years and used to work for Harrods in the U.K .They bought the bed in Europe and he extended it …as they were very small in those days. Now it’s soooo long and very pretty. I just can’t help but like my own bed. I’m glad I’m not the only one!
Hope Maddy and Selena are okay! Hugs, Ivonne. Paula xxxx

  13. I understand what you mean coz I need special pillow to sleep so in a new bed it might takes ages for me to fall sleep. I also think many people have the same problem with new bed.

    • For sure. I like my Latex pillow to sleep on. Plus you buy the bed that best suits you…So when you go someone elses… It feels wrong! Lol
Have a great day. Hugs to you. Paula xxxx

  14. Good thinking for the hostess to let you sleep over. I wouldn’t let you go driving either. Sleeping in your own bed is the best. For me, I crash anywhere. And I don’t even drink alcohol. Good Morning, Paula. xox Perpetua.

    • Hahahaha,
      🙂
Bradley’s comment above said pretty much the same thing. He can crash anywhere. I would so love to be able to do that! Thank you for not letting me drink and drive. 🙂 I learned my lesson on that one when I was young. Luckily I didn’t have an accident, but it was enough to show me I was in the wrong and to never drink and drive again. For me it’s now Afternoon. So, my lovely…GOOD AFTERNOON!!! Super hugs to you. Paula xxxxxxoo

  15. Must be good to sleep in ones own bed again…
    🙂

Wee! You are not alone! I absolutely have to sleep in my bed and not anywhere else ha.
Have a lovely day and sweet dreams Paula! xox Bea

    • Hello our baby girl.
So, you are the same. It’s really hard to relax in someone elses bed.
Have a great day at school and chin up, okay? We here at WordPress are on your side. Take care of you. Hugs Paula xxx

Love picture of the bed looks very comfy, i say be adventurous, if not at least you will keep the taxi service in business

    • Haha!
      🙂
My mums bed is really comfortable. I just have an attachment to my own bed.
Plus I snore and who can sleep with a snorer in the house. Lol
Have a great day. Hugs Paula xxx

Stay healthy and “cool”, babe… 🙂 xoxoxo

  19. You are not alone, my friend. I suggest that you sleep in a sleeping bag on your bed for awhile. Then when you need to sleep away from home, bring the sleeping bag. After you have attached yourself to the sleeping bag, you will feel safer in it than in a different bed. It is all about feeling safe. I am sure your bed is comfortable, but if you feel panic at the thought of not sleeping in your bed, it means that it represents a very safe place for you. Just a thought. Take care!

  20. I do love my bed, but I’ll sleep anywhere, me…I tend to get antsy the next morning though and like to leave early…not sure why. Still it’s nice to have a hobby. xx

    • Hahahaha!
      🙂
You crack me up. So, how was my cyber Lamb Casserole?
To be honest… it wasn’t that bad. I’ll try it on my grandkids this afternoon and see if I get the thumbs up. Lol You have a great weekend and have a drink for me! Hugs Paula xx

      • Belatedly he answers…the cyber lamb casserole, I was hoping was going to be a cyborg and go shooting people like a cheap Terminator, still after that excitement I sat down and wolfed it down because lambs get eaten by wolves and I like themes. xx

      • Hahahahahahaha!!!!
I can barely type from laughing so much! 🙂 Hugs to you. xxxxxx

  21. I always sleep much better in my own bed, but these days, I seem to spend so much time travelling, that I’ve had to resign myself to the fact that I’m away from my home comforts for a lot of the time. I’m settled here in Florida for a while now. 🙂

    • That should be wonderful. I’ve never been there. Tis true as you’ve been travelling quite a bit and had to lay your head on many pillows. Lol
When I travel? I still sleep terribly. I love travelling…I’m just an awful sleeper. Hugs to you, Sylvia. Paula xxxxx

  22. Rohan 7 Things

I am definitely an own bed/shower/toilet kind of person. So much more comfortable in my own zone. Hotels are an exception though, love em 🙂

You’re definitely weird because of that, but keeping a few supplies handy for crashing at other people’s places might be a good idea so you can chill out a bit more about it 🙂

    Hugs!

    Rohan.

    • Haha!
      🙂
Yip, even hotels I struggle to sleep in! Lol That’s the key word!! I just found it. Lol I need to CHILL out! I sooo want to be able to this one. I have to break the habit of the habit, so to speak! LMAO I hope you are having a peaceful weekend. Hugs Rohan, Paula xxxxx

  23. The bed is really beautiful, but I agree, there’s no place like my own bed 🙂 I hate sleeping at hotels or other people’s houses. Doesn’t matter who or where, if it’s not my bed I just don’t sleep that well.

    • I am exactly the same!!!
      🙂
Mums spare room bed is amazing…but it’s not my bed! Lol
      I woke up constantly. I wish I wasn’t like this, but I am. 🙂
Glad you understand. Hugs to you, Megan. Paula xxxx

  24. June

Wow, that bed really looks comfy. I easily give in to invites of sleepover since I want to believe that I’m resilient even in that simplistic sense but I really prefer sleeping on my own bed because more often than not, I get sleep troubles when I I sleep somewhere else. 🙂

    • Hey my Juney! 🙂
Mums bed really is comfy and she almost tucked me in like a child. 🙂 My step dad and her spoilt me by making me breakfast and fussing over me. It was ever so sweet and made me wish I was a child again. Ahhhh, but we are grownups and have grown up responsibilities. Darn it! LMAO
I definitely sleep better in my own bed too. About to go out for lunch. When I return? Your series begins. Lol I see you posted. Hugs to you, my friend. Paula xxxx
